I would spend the $ to get the counter top replaced. If the counter is small and a standard size this can be done quite cheaply.

A new, stark white counter top with chocolate colored fixtures cold look very modern and striking. A pale blue is also a hot match for brown this year and baby pink and brown are always classic combinations. (I have always dreamed of a bathroom that looked like Neapolitan ice cream :))

If you don't have the dough to replace the counter top I have painted counter tops with fairly good results. To paint a counter top choose a melamine paint. This is a hard finish that was meant to take wet areas. My last counter top I painted I actually did with white colors in plastic spray paint.

We have no kids so the counter top didn't get much abuse and lasted us almost three years. I had to re-coat after an accident with hair dye that stained the finish and a pot of hair gel (must of had alcohol in it bubbled the paint)

If you want it to have a country feeling to it, try a light creme color. The walls of a bathroom should always be light to medium shade. A dark bathroom is only okay if there are lots of windows.
You already have brown as an accent color, so you want a lighter color on the walls so that it doesn't look like a big mess of colors.
Personally, i would use a light olive-ish green. Yellow/ green/ brown go great together. Try to add more brown, like maybe in the shower curtain just a touch of brown and green. Or the bathroom mats can be light brown.
Try to make it match, but don't make everything bold colors.

How good are you at painting? You could have one solid color or you can spruce it up with two using a sponge. I've done this to blend the bathroom into the bedroom with colors. It words very well. I wouldn't use more than two if you haven't done it before. If you do, go with the lesser colors like the cream and raspberry maybe. With this technique you have to be careful but the results can be amazing.

take sample colors close to the color of the sink and counter to a paint store and hold them close to other colors that you are attracted to .if the sinks are in good shape the brown should be ok .try a light beige on the walls or for a punch of color look at the deep blues or reds/corals have fun..there are so many ways you could go.talk to a proffessional decorator as well if you have one in your area............

Take a digital photo in good lighting, and take it to Home Depot where you can compare the existing colors of your bathroom with the thousands of paint cards on display to help you. This would be the way I would do it.

a light creamy yellow. it would accent the brown sink and pull the yellow out of the countertops. or go tangerine orange. my sunroom is painted this color and it looks great. or try a gold...so many choices. go to home depot and get a bunch of color charts. go from there. stay away from tans, browns and whites. will be too blah!!!

depends On how you want It too look, Orange would look good for a retro look and a light yellow/cream would look good for a modern But I don't think anything else would look good with a brown sink and a yellow counter
