My landloard has two cocktiels outside in a small wire cage with just one bird box in there for "protection" and for nesting. Lately, we've experience several days of temperature just below 40 degrees Farenh. It's it too cold for the birds out there?

I'm basically looking for someone who knows FOR SURE, what the temperature limitations (max and minimum) are for those type of birds.

Please help me build a strong case so that when I bring it to his attention I might convince him to protect them better or maybe someday he can give them to someone else.

i would say that that is too cold for those birds to be out in that weather, they are tropical birds nothing over 100 degrees and nothing under 50 degrees,i have a cockatiel and cover him everynight with adoulbe blanket just to be safe, i would let this person know these birds could die of freezing in those temps, if this person knows that is abuse you should contact proper authorities

German Shepherds are better at tolerating the cold, but I still think that being concerned is appropriate here. The dog should have a little doghouse thing with a bed inside, just to keep the wind from hurting him. I think the best thing to do would be to talk to your neighbor and suggest that they do something like that. Or maybe not suggest anything at first, but just let them know. Some pet owners, or people in general, don't like to be told what to do about their own things/pets. So I'd just kindly say that it's cold and windy and their dogs looks uncomfortable.

Cockatiels are an Australian species, and they CANNOT tolerate temperatures below 70F. No parrot can. This is something to fix NOW, not someday- those birds are going to die. Call animal control or a parrot rescue or humane society, do SOMETHING before the poor birds are dead!!

Those birds will die, being in that degree of weather yes. It's seriously not smart @ all to do that, they will freeze. It's not even good to change the temperature ON the birds soo quickly much less freezing to death outside. He can even bring them inside, or scrape them off the bottom of the cage in the morning. :) :( good luck.

Cockatiels (as well as other parrots) can not survive in temps that low. They are native to Australia and need to be kept about 75 degrees F (room temp). They will die quickly in temps that cold. Please do whatever you can ASAP. They are small and don't produce enough body heat to survive. I am shocked they have survived longer than one night. Please give us an update.

That is so cruel.

Please call the SPCA, they will know the answer and they will know what to do.

The poor birdies, they should be inside and loved. Not ouside in the cold.

You need to call animal control/humane society/ASPCA over this issue.
