Zealots are becoming louder and more obnoxious so the average person, who is not too bright, becomes religious too because he is guilted into it or they feel they should.
Unfortunately religious fervors delays intelligence and progress so we all suffer for it.
If there was no religion and everyone put that effort into bettering society, we would have wiped out disease and colonized other planets by now.
Fortunately, religious fervor is cyclical and soon everyone will go back to not caring, just like everyone used to be patriotic and that died down. Tells you something about the integrity of the average person.

It doesn't matter. Take a walk right now and see how far you have to walk before someone busts you upside the head or robs you. Are you catching my drift? Jesus ain't gonna save anything from the insanity of this world because all of that religious stuff was a fairytale. This world will always be cruel and uncivilized and religion isn't helping. Pray all you want and when you wake up look at what has changed. Nothing.

I would say more religious. First large immigrant populations such as Hispanics, who are very christian, are bringing their belief systems with them. Secondly despite the moral decay that we are experiencing in the US there is a great spiritual hunger. Many are turning to prayer to deepen their lives. I think if you look at the stats. you will find that the US has one of the highest levels of church attendance. In my opinion this trend is a good thing.

Religion can be the very educated or the very stupid... No, the United States isn't becoming more religious but rather, more like burying their heads like ostriches in the sand, so to speak.
Corrupt leaders encourage this kind of fundamental behavior so that people can become sheeple.

I guess I think the gap is getting bigger between religious people and atheists. It used to be in the olden days, that pretty much everyone was kind of religious and it wasn't a big source of disagreement. But today, it's much more you're either a religious fanatic or a full blown atheist. I guess that's what I've observed.

The world itself is moving to a more secular state. I feel this is do to the fact that people are because of technology becoming more isolated from each other and individualism is in the forefront. People are more concerned with meeting their own needs then helping others. This is what is stipulated in all the great religous texts and these teaching are now being ignored. Helping your neighbour is no longer part of the stipulation.

Less, at least in the way of Christianity, but probably in other traditional religions as well. I know a lot of people today who would answer they are Christians if they were asked, but if you asked them to tell you whether or not Christianity believes that Jesus is a God or if Jesus is the only way to heaven, they would look at you as if you were insane.

I think it depends on the time period in question. If you say within the last 200 to 50 years, I would say probably less religious.
But in the last 10? I think it has become more religious as divisive issues have forced people to consider where they stand and make a real choice. For better or worse.
What do you think?

Unfortunately not less religious only less Christian. You people had better do something about that. Or we will all be overrun by the hoards of suicidal Muslims. What happened to your great evangelist have they all given up since the Great Billy Graham retired?
