If you can scratch it and pieces of dry skin falls off, it may be a form of dandruff.

At times, I get it around my nose and in my eyebrows. Went to the doctor back in November. Below is part of the print-out that he gave me:

Seborrhea is a common skin problem. It causes a red, itchy rash and yellowish greasy scales. In adults, seborrhea dermatitis usually affects the scalp, eyebrows, sides of the nose, ear canals, and behind the ears. It sometimes affects the armpits, chest and in the groin area. People commonly call it "dandruff".

CAUSES: Current thinking is that the skin is reacting to an overgrowth of Pityrosporum yeast in oil-bearing skin. People with seborrhea produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, a yeast called pityrosporum grows excessively in the oil, causing inflamation. The irritation produces redness, itching and scaling. Stress, fatigue, weather extremes and infrequent shampooing or skin cleaning makes it worse. It can run in families.

TREATMENT OF FACE: Seborrhea on the face and body gets better if it is washed every day with soap and water. Sunlight seems to stop growth of the yeast organism, which is why the skin may look its best in summer. If seborrhea occurs in the beard and mustache, washing with the dandruff shampoos is helpful. For the face, anti-yeast creams (Nizoral and Loprox), steroids (DeeOwen), or anti-inflammatory creams (Elidel) are used.

CURE?: Is controllable not curable. May go away and come back later. Each person has their own pattern of it re-occurring.

first exfoliate the crap out of it. And then use a water based moisturizer. then tommorow when you wake up be sure to use the moisturizer again. Keep it in your pocket throughout the day and if you need to dab it on you can do so. Dont put lotion on it because it could clog your pores and give you blackheads/ pimples and gross stuff like that. good luck!
