What are the qualifications for graduating with dress blues from boot camp?

The Marine Corps doesn't have 'basic', we have boot camp. Platoon leaders are chosen based on performance evaluations. The best man in the platoon is chosen.

There are several things your boyfriend can do to graduate boot camp with honors. Getting the highest rifle score on the range and getting the highest PFT score are just a couple of ways. Drill Instructors watch you all the time....even when you think no one is, they are watching. If he gives 110% all the time in all areas it will be hard for him not to be the one to graduate at the top of his platoon.

To get free dress blues you have to be platoon or company honor man, I cant remember which one it is. Basically the drill instructors will pick the honor man based on physical fitness along with other things. Aside from that though anyone has the option to buy them. Atleast thats the way it was when I was there about four years ago.

He has to graduate as platoon guide to get them for free. That is being the best recruit physically and mentally and showing the most leadership potential. Otherwise, they are $200 and he can buy them during the third phase of training. Tell him to just buy them, that way if he doesn't get guide, they are WAY cheaper and it's just another uniform he won't have to get later.
