Are you happy that Starbucks plans switch to growth-hormone-free milk?

Starbucks Corp. on Tuesday said it is aiming to make the milk and other dairy products it serves in its U.S. coffee houses free of a controversial artificial growth hormone used in dairies to increase milk production.

The move comes after Starbucks was targeted in a campaign by consumer groups critical of the use of an artificial hormone known as rBGH, which is given as a supplement to dairy cows to increase milk production.

The dairy products involved include fluid milk, half-and-half, whipping cream and eggnog.

There is no similar move for overseas locations because the supplement is not allowed in most other nations.

Are you happy with this change or not bothered? I reckon it's about time!

Yes, I am! As a regular Starbucks customer, I am very happy about this because I mostly order lattes. I want my milk to be healther and this is the best step since Starbucks started offering the organic milk as sidelines. :)

Besides the first answer, the only other ones that think its an improvement say its because of thier health, not the cows.

So i guess no-one here understands ( or cares, i don't know which ) about how cows are treated cows

Any improvement, however small, to the way animals are treated is a step in the right direction.

However, reduction of growth hormones is more about a concern from the industry about effects on humans. Tagging it to "its better for the animals" makes Starbucks look good, if they said "we're removing it because of medical concern" there would be chaos.

Hormone use is a tiny part of the misuse of cows in the extraction of milk.

I dont drink coffee, but I am happy to see a large worldwide company like Starbucks have some social awareness.
Considering our government doesnt care what harmful products are in our food supply and unwilling to let us know they may be there, it is nice that some businesses care about the health and well-being of their customers. I work for a food service company called Bon Appetit, and we also strive to use hormone free and antibiotic-free meat and meat products, wild caught fish, and locally produced and grown products whenever it is feasible.

Being a large corporation, all they have to do now is pay their workers properly and stop overcharging the customers on the basis that they have nice packaging and I may consider going there.

fairly? i did not be attentive to that besides the undeniable fact that it is cool in the event that they do. i think of they might grant purely wide-unfold espresso to them whilst it is chilly out. i'm specific it would not value them from now on then milk does.

Honestly never had a starbucks coffee.
Cost to much.
Plus I love to make it myself,it smells so good when its brewing.
So not bothered.
