To answer your first question. Women weren't eligible for the draft because someone had to stay home and raise the kids.
Secondly, women aren't allowed in combat roles in the United States Military. The only women that get even close are pilots. There are many reasons for this but one is that the psyche of men is affected when women around them are killed and/or maimed. This would affect the general morale of the troops. The second reason still applies, who will stay home and take care of the kids. Also, if you want to get out of being drafted and are a female all you would have to do is get pregnant.

1) the most stated rationale is that the military has wanted combat units where everyone's a guy such that no two people in the same unit developed a romantic relationship and would then possibly risk the well-being of the unit for the individual.
2) there won't be a draft in 2008 in the us.

Since my draft number was 14 back in the day....
That was the way the law was written. The opinion was that the average American wasn't ready to see body bags of mothers, daughters and sisters.
As for 2008, the Demarcates have submitted bills in both houses (HR164 & S18 as I recall) to restart the draft since 2002. And yes, their plan includes drafting women and men.

The law of the USA at the time did not allow for the draft of women.

there wont be a draft.. but the draft would only be men again.. thats why we have the selective services..
females are not allowed in combat specializing jobs .. that means no Spec ops .. no infantry nothin like that.. and i see why ..
hell women dont belong in combat.. some prick will get the idea to rape the females.. watch it wont be long before it happens..

I am not sure if it will include women or not. I personally dont think the women should be included. Our men soldiers have enough to worry about out there. It is a proven fact that men are just very protective over us women so being there is just a distraction. Just my opinion.
