My daughter is breastfed..and I am currently weaning her.
Can you start giving cow's milk as soon as they turn one
or do you have to go to the doc first?

Wow! Congratulations for making it all the way through the first year with breastfeeding! I wish I could've done that.

As soon as they turn one is okay, but if she's never had formula, then you can't be 100% sure how she'll react to the lactose in the cow's milk. Make sure to give it slowly, and my pediatritian recomended not giving it out of the bottle, only a cup, so that you don't have to wean twice (the breast then the bottle).

I think it's always a good idea to talk to the dr about it at the 12 month check-up, just in case they have any personal recomendations.

My son will be one on Feb. 10, and I don't think I'll start the cow's milk that early, becuase he's on a soy formula. I'm afraid of making him sick!

Good luck, and congrats again!

Cow milk, No! Formula, Yes! Your baby is too young for that. Your baby's metabolizing is not yet ready to handle that. Use formula, its healthier and safer than cow milk. After formula that’s when you can gradually introduce the cow milk. Wait until maybe 20 months to introduce the cow milk.

Dr. not required, just SLOWLY introduce cow milk, 1 ounce at a time, see how she reacts. You don't want to replace entire feedings with cow milk at once.

It is not a good idea to give your child cow's milk at such a young age. You should be weaning her onto a formula. Go to the doctor and they will tell you what you need to know.

You should probably wait on the cows milk just because of all the chemicals nowadays. But i doubt itll hurt her.

I had no problems switching mine to cow's milk at age one. The hardest part was getting them to accept the rubber nipple!

I just started mine on milk when she turned one. I didn't ask the doctor first. If in doubt though, you could always call the doctors office and ask
