Many people get diagnosed with IBS but I don't think the vast majority have it - but they have the same symptoms. IBS is characterised by bowel disruption including bloating, cramping, diarrhoea, constipation and general abdominal discomfort/pain.
I'm a colon hydrotherapist and have people presenting with IBS all day. Many turn out to have food sensitivities, just as many have disordered eating for example a client diagnosed with IBS who ate nothing all day and had a meat curry with no veg or rice at night. Also lots of people who don't eat vegetables and fruit (and you would be surprised how many there are) are not gettng the nutrients they need to power their bodily functions.
So, if you are experiencing the kind of discomfort I havew described. Firstly go and see your GP to check there is nothing to worry about and then go and see a good colon hydrotherapist who should be able to point out any issues with your diet and lifestyle and hopefully get you back on track.

it can easily be confused with constipation. The main symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome are abdominal pain or discomfort that occurs along with constipation or diarrhea. Other common symptoms are bloating, mucus in the stools, or a sense that you have not completely emptied your bowels.
Many people with IBS have alternating periods of constipation and diarrhea, but often one problem is more common than the other. A given episode may be milder or more severe than the one before it, but the disorder itself does not become worse over time. Irritable bowel syndrome does not lead to more serious diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease or cancer.
IBS is one of the most common intestinal disorders. Most people's symptoms are so mild that they never see a doctor for treatment. However, some people may have troublesome symptoms, especially abdominal cramps, bloating, and diarrhea.

See the Doc, to be safe.... But I suffered from that, with my Dr.s knowledge for years, till I discovered what was causing it... Refined flour, seroiusly...Start keeping track of everything you eat that contains refined flour/sugar, and you will be amazed at the actual amount you are consuming daily...I am not a health freak, and do not recommend anything else than abstain from refined flour and sugar for a couple of days, and see if your symptoms go away... The Dr's are important, but most of them do not know how to fix anything without prescribing a medication... Try this for a couple of days, and keep a diary of results, and get back to me... worked wonders for me, wish you good luck....

Usually the way IBS is diagnosed is by ruling out everything else. If they can't figure out what it is, it must be IBS.

If you have the symptoms and your doctor diagnoses it, then you have it.
