Why does my cat like to sleep on my back every night? She will curl up on my back and sleep all night. I am sure a lot of cats do this but why is it?
Also, a wierd thing she does, every night when I turn off the TV to go to sleep she will get up out of bed, go eat and then come back to bed. Even if she is in a deep sleep she will wake up when the TV goes off, then go eat.
I am just curious.

There's a pulse in the middle of your back,
maybe she likes hearing your heart beat.
Probably just likes being close to you.
Midnight snack, that's funny, when I fall
asleep in front of theTV, I wake up and go
get a snack before going to bed.
Your cat sounds a little human.

Sounds as though your cat has the symptom that people have when they sleep eat!! Cats are weird and wonderful creatures who knows why they do what they do. She must think turn of television means "eat, it's along way to the morning"! As for sleeping on your back she really, really loves you and just wants get herself up somewhere high but not to far away from you. She probably loves to feel the rise and fall or your chest when you breathe.

She sounds like a real GEM

Its warm there. and cats like to be warm. My cat sleeps under the covers with me.

Some cats like people wake when sound starts or stops. I had a friend in college that you could turn the TV on as loud as you wanted and would still be asleep untill you turned it off. and funny she always got something to eat after words. I asked her why she said she got confused and thought it was morning and breakfast time.

Well hope that helps.

She sleeps on your back because it's comfortable, it's close to you, and she likes it.

The TV thing is funny! Sounds like she has a little routine going. For some reason she connects the TV going off with having her dinner, so she gets up and goes to eat when the TV is turned off.

Cats do what they like to do and really don't care whether they please us or not (unlike dogs, who want to please their owners and be part of a pack)--so if she's doing something, the most likely reason is: because she wants to!

My cat sits in the doorway watching me get ready for bed. wash my face. lotion, bible, cigarette and turn TV to Nick. The the light goes out and he immediately jumps on the bed a circles around my head and finally crawls in beside me so I have my arm over him. No matter what, after the cigarette and lights out its always the same. Cats a creatures of habit.

since it's a cat, my answer is only a guess.

I would say that a cat sleeps on a person's back to allow it to have a "safety" layer that your nervous system provides. If *you* move, your cat will wake up and take appropriate action.

Less mental energy expended by the cat that way,

I've noticed that cats choose "safety" for sleeping spots
(under chairs don't get stepped on ... between door and wall don't get stepped on .. on back of couch, don't get stepped on ...)

Hi. Someone once wrote that cats c us as warm pieces of furniture. (Smile.) By the way, does ur cat give u a massage?

Ur cat likes 2 sleep on ur back bc that area is relatively long & flat which allows her/him room 2 stretch. He/she "...longs 2 b...close 2 u"--The Carpenters.

I don't know if you are warm or soft, but your cat obviuosly thinks you are "Mommy". It's better than if she tried to sleep in your hair.
