My 1999 Mercury Cougar, with a 2.5 liter V6, continues to have electrical problems despite a recently installed new battery and alternator. The only way to crank the car is to jump it, and after I remove the cables, it stutters, the lights to dim and it shuts off. Also, a recently installed $150 brake light switch is no longer working. A friend indicates a computer/sensor problem here. Anyone have any ideas?, ......Help In GA !!

alternator is bad or the fuse in the wire that goes to it is burnt. The fuse is somewhere under the coil pack, make sure that there is fire in the big wire at the alternator

if the engine doesn't roll over you might have a bad starter. try turning the engine by hand with the alternator pulley, 15/16 socket, if the crank turns the engine is not stuck. 1.5 quarts low should not hurt the engine
