If it is a persistant problem, go see your family doctor in the morning. You may need medication.

If it isn't a persistant problem, lay in bed and concentrate on relaxing your muscles. (Do it in sections if necessary. But let your focus be on relaxation and sleep.) I know this sounds cheesy, but it has worked for me countless times.

Try to avoid things like Ambien. Drugs aren't always the solution (although they sometimes are for some). I used to be a terrible insomniac...I mean really bad.

Best things for you to do are:
-Get some exercise throughout the day...even if it's just a 30 min walk
-No caffeine after 3pm
-Do something relaxing after 8pm (watch TV, read a book, listen to music, meditate)
-Clear your head upon laying down. Take three deep breath and let it out slowly.

If the level of food (dinner) that u intake is not sufficient you may have sleeping problem. Try take some light suppers before you sleep or when you cant sleep. One more important thing is Avoid Cofee! Cofee contains caffein which can cause lack of sleepness.

I have problem with sleeping too. What I do is now I would watch TV lying down and at the same time breathe in and out in a rythmic way- being aware of my abdomen rising up and down. And eventually in no time, I would felt asleep. TV + being aware of my breathing relax my mind and body. Remember to breathe naturally and in a rthymic way.

Make your room completely dark , so get rid of the tv and computer in there . Keep your room cooler than the rest of the house.

You can have some white noise going like a fan or a cd with relaxing sounds on.

Have the same bed time routine every night including weekends. Get up the same time , go to sleep the same time,no catching up on sleep on the weekends.

Take some melatonin suppliments... they smell awful that'd keep me awake having them in my room.

Have a cup of nightie night , sleepytime tea or some warm milk.

If that doesn't work talk to your family doctor about sleep aides for a short period of time until you fall asleep naturally.

well, i have suffered from insomnia for about 20 years.

If you want to try to sleep:

If you want meds to go to sleep try something like Tylenol PM or Benedryl. (Tylenol PM is just tylenol and benedryl together.) You could also try Unisom, but i suggest the benedryl thing first.

If you dont' want to do the med thing, try herbal tea, reading a book, listening to soothing music like classical or smooth jazz, meditation, watching TV or a movie and even drinking a cup of warm milk or a glass of wine.

And if you don't want to go to sleep, try some online games, go online shopping or go to Walmart and mill around, or if you really want to have a good time, have sex. lol!

blessings to you!
