Well there's no actual 'magic' plan that's just going to work for everybody. You can be flexible in that area. The secret is to find something you can stick with for life. A lot of people lose weight on diets, the problem is that most gain it back.

Two basic requirements for weight loss:
1) You burn more energy than you're eating
2) You're eating enough to keep your metabolism working so that it works efficiently.

Eating small meals often and throughout the day is a very good way to get your metabolism to work it's absolute best, but you may find you don't like eating that often, or you even lose track and end up grazing throughout the day.

I've lost 20 doing nothing but keeping a food journal of everything I eat, and consuming between 1000-1500 calories per day. So, for me, the best tool is awareness. My pitfall was mindless eating, and once I became more aware of what I was doing, I automatically started eating less. Sometimes I would avoid food simply because I didn't feel like writing it all down.

EDIT: Phsyical activity is ALWAYS a good bet, even though personally I'm just getting started with that. Muscle burns more fat, even when you're just sitting around or standing.

The more times you eat a day the better, just keep this in mind...you only eat a small handful or tiny salad plate of food at a time and you stop eating before you actually feel full. Think of it as just trying to stave off the hunger. This keeps your motor running (metabolism) constantly because it has to in order to digest the food. It also helps to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. But WHAT you eat is also as important. Stick to non-processed foods. Fruits, veggies, lean cuts of meat, etc. Nothing breaded or fried or filled with sugar. When you don't eat often enough sometimes your metabolism starts to shut down thinking your body is starving. When that happens it hangs on to EVERY bit of food you eat and store it as fat for the crisis it thinks is coming. The very BEST advice I can give is this - listen to your body. Eat when you are hungry and stop before you feel full because chances are you ARE full but your body hasn't had time to register that yet. Do simple exercises. Start with walking 10 mins a day if you aren't currently doing anything. Work your way up from there. Good luck!

i work out 3-5 days a week doing 30 mins of wieght training and 30 mins of cardio in that order.. it seems to work for me. For eating, i just cut out fast food, try to eat 3 healthy meals, and 2- 3 ssnacks. try sparkpeople.com, it helps clear the confusion and it is free!!.
