You need to feed your hamster as much catnip as he can stand to eat. The hamster will then produce pheromones that cats really dislike.

Not really, about the getting rid part. If the cat has tried to eat the hamster, they both need some counseling on domestic abuse. The cat as the abuser and the hamster as the victim. Poor hamster he must have been really scared and stressed at that moment.
Seriously........
I say keep the hamster in a room where the cat is not allowed.

Sorry but hunting rodents is a cats nature. You must keep your hamster in a place where the cat cannot get him or it will be curtains for the little guy.

leave them apart and try not to leave the cat running around your hamster's cage - it would be ideal if you close the room in which your hamster is situated so that your cat won't disturb it.

kick the stuff out of the cat when it's near the hamster. It's a fast way to get the picture.

Easy. Buy a big dog that will eat your cat. Your hamster will then be safe.
