Well, this is a question that has been churning the minds of all social thinkers and wise men of all ages. But first we must define what is corruption and who all indulge in it. If a robber robs one on the highway, it is not corruption it is plain robbery. But if a policeman notices this and instead of catching him, lets him go away after taking a cut, it is corruption. If for fear of his life, he lets him escape, it is cowardice but not corruption. But a system that recruits such undutiful and dishonest police officers, is definitely corrupt.
So who really wants to remove or eliminate corruption? Is it the MLAs or MPs ? Do you think they spend lacks and crores to be elected in a regime where there is really ( let us take an idealistic situation) no corruption. Do you think a govt comes to power to really remove poverty or to make themselves unimagineably rich? And it is here lies the answer to corruption. If no one is allowed to hoard wealth or property beyond a limit, there will be restraint on corruption. But this approch failed in the soviet union. Here people can hold enormous wealth in 'benami' names and keep surrendering or declaring the excess when it becomes inescapable. So what is the remedy and where to start.? One, it is surely linked with the perks and benefits associated with the post, if it is not related to any out put or performance criteria. The total expenditure on the president, PM, MPs and ministers, and also on the chief secretaries, not only their total salaries but on all other perks like foreign travel, security, bungalow , medical benefits etc. should be linked to per capita national income. Then and then only some answerability will emerge and corruption will tend to come down.

Don't blame the darkness. Light up a candle.
Not accepting the bribes in any form is the only way we can save our society from this cancer.
When we do not indulge in corrupt practices, we become role models to our
Collegues.
Sub-ordinates.
Our family members.
As the number of honest people increase, it reduces and finally eliminates the corruption.

Yes we can abolish corruption from our country.... and the only means to do this is to CHANGE THE ELECTORAL SYSTEM in India.

lemme lucidate...

the root for corruotion in our country is 'Politics' and the uneducated people over there...

our dearly President, Sir Abdul Kalam, should bring up a rule in the election system that...

1. Only graduates can nominate for elections.
2. Before nomination, the candidates shud pass through a test and an interview should by the experts. (a kind of thing like IAS entrance).

A maximum, damn maximum, extent of corruption can be removed by implementing the above two rules.

I am not to infer that all un-educated rules are corruted, there definately are people who work for what they are meant for. I am only to say that maximum of the rulers are corrupted and they make lay the base for all means of corruption in the Govrnment.

I know that this only answer of mine can nowhere change Government but i hope... every Indian reads this answer and, atleast once, bring this to their mind.

Thank you.

first it is the family which is mainly responsible for making a man corrupt. man has become increasingly selfish and greedy.nomore do people have moral values.to tackle corruption the top brass should be clean and vigilant.but they arent.so an independent body consisting of scientists,academists,ex-army men must take over the responsibility of a watch dog with the assistance of our increasingly shrewd media and expose corruption at all levels by showcasing their crimes and their death by hanging in a prime time tv program which would instil fear among all other black sheeps!!

I hate to be negative, but I think that would be extremely hard to do.

America has much less corruption compared to India, Burma, Thailand, Africa and many other nations.

The best defense against corruption is freedom of speech and the media. If the media has free reign (as they do in the US), that definitely helps.

Hello,
Corruption is more in Govt and Public Sectors, where the salary is very low when compared to MN Cs, Private sector etc., If salary is satisfactory, Govt. workers will not take bribe.
Each and every citizen of India should take an oath that he/she will not give extra money to anybody to make their work to done. Merritt should be given preference and first come should be served first.

If those who we place in powerful positions to govern us fall into corruption, how can we expect the rest of society to be above such acts.
