My Aunt has a group home for the mentally disabled and I was thinking about maybe opening one for teens. I am wondering what is required? Do I need to get a loan or grant or who can I contact for more information. I mean I am almost 20 years old and when I was in high school I was a troubled teen so this is something I've been thinking about since I was 13 years old. Does this seem like a good idea? What is everyones opinion?

first of all I would recommend volunteering for a group home so that you can get the experience you need. there are several different organizations around that have groups homes already established, check in your area and see if they can't help you.
from personal experience your goal is admirable but probably not practical, especially right now. the reason i say this is because i'm in the same boat as you, except that I'm 28. i got a job a couple months ago working at group home for troubled teens but was asked to resign after 2 days of working there. the reason is because even though i thought i had resolved some of the issues of my past i'm still very much aware of them.
there are other ways you can help though. look into volunteering your time either with Big Brothers/Sisters. you could also look into getting a job or volunteering at a local Boys and Girls Club.
I think that maybe in a few years, after you've got more experience from the adult prespective, you could very possibly do what you want to do. either way good luck

Get training and work in a group home before you decide to open one. Right now you're not qualified and could easily do more harm than good, even if you do have the best of intentions.

Excellent goal though, good luck with it.

My suggestion is that if you feel the need to help kids ,try a mental health facility for kids and get a job with them. It is a great feeling t to help but it is also very trying as well and takes a very special person. Good Luck

bad idea as far as it takes a lot of work and these kids oh lord i have worked with many plus keeping staff is almost impossible big turn over with employees it requires a lot of trainings for staff and the list goes on...i personally would not want the responsibility of such a thing and you are so young...its a nice idea but id say no dont do it

first work or volunteer at one or two. hindsight is not always 20 /20 you may find that being the adult in that situation is far from what you thought it would be.

Are you in this for the money?

If you want to help people, get an education (sorry, no quick route to actually do anything) and get off the computer.

If you want to charge thousands and thousands of dollars a month and basically do what ever you want in an unregulated 'industry' then just find an ed-con to refer kids to you.

I suggest checking at http://www.fornits.com/wwf/ about this.
