I have a 10 month old female rottweiler, and she is scared of objects like bikes, and things that make a lot of noise. She gets scared when i drag the kitchen chair on the kitchen floor. She is also scared of the ocean and the big waves. But the funny thing is when someone comes into my house she barks, but I don't know if she would do anything to protect me. I guess she realy doesn't need to do anything, just being a rottweiler that bars is enough. Will continueing to showing her things like bikes, and the ocean help calm her fears? And how do I get her to stop being so nervous?

Ok. Pass by the item that she is scared of as it is nothing... just part of the background. She will think it's nothing. An this is very important. When your dog is scared, dont pet her and baby talk to her. She will never get over it! always praise her for being brave.

first of all dogs ears are very sensitive, so loud noises like the chair being dragged across the kitchen floor and the ocean. those are loud noises, so imagine having those noises intensified about 5 times ...that is how it sounds to a dog. as for protecting you....I'm Positive when the time comes she'd kill for you, if need be. especially if you treat her well, and show her lots of love. animals protect those they love all the time. she could also just be a nervous dog...perhaps she could use like an antidepressant or something...that could help calm her down, and probably would help her from being so freaked out when loud noises happen around her. just the other day Jennifer Love Hewitt was on the Ellen Degeneres show talking about her dog being really nervous, and they put her on some kind of anti depressant. talk to your vet and talk to him/her about your dog..I'm sure they can figure something help that will help her out. good luck, and hope this helps!

have you ever heard of the dog whisperer cesar milan?
he is not a real like sycic or anything he just uses the right kind of sycology on dogs to fix their problems
this is what he would have you do.

1. put your dog on a leash and make her walk at your heel just behind your leg so you are dominant and she is following you.
2. make your additude calm adn commanding, with out being forceful.
3. walk by the bike for intance in this manner and don't even look at it. be calm and your dog will be too
4. repeat with all the other terrifying objects.

when training a dog you want to use dog sycology. you can't think like a human when dealing with a dog.

the best thing you can reward your dog with is attention. your dog will do anything for attention. so if you give your dog attention when they are scared it nurtues that behavior and they will act like that because they will think it is what you want
if you need more help you can rent the dog whisperer on DVD it really helps

I feel for you. I have a golden that has the same issues. She actually had an event that caused it. Someone threw a firecracker over our fence and it hit her. So for 5 years she has been a mess every time it thunderstormed or when there are fireworks. But we do try to calm her down and talk calmly to her and slowly she is becoming less afraid. I think it is good to just get down on their level and be brave for them. Hang in there. It will get better the longer she realizes nothing bad happens when she hears loud noises.

Every time your dog is around something scary talk to her in a soothing voice, pat her, and comfort her by showing her what the thing is by making a loud noise. Get a tape recording of the ocean and put it in her crate at night on a soft volume, she'll get used to the noise so in real life it won't be so unfamiliar.

do you get the history channel? watch the dog whisperer, he is awesome. dogs need to be focused on a job, doing things like energy walking, rollerblading or such. it doesnt give them a chance to pay attention to much else and they love the exercise.
