I deposited $500 on a poker website through an echeck. They gave me the money to play with on their website. About a week later, they say that the echeck has not cleared due to "invalid account number status" (but i had given them the correct name, account number, and routing number!). My bank account was never charged. I lost the money I played with (damn blackjack!). What happens if I do nothing? Will my credit be ruined? I gave them all the right information, they just didn't take money out. Now they want me to fill out one of their forms and fax it with a photocopy of a voided check and my driver's license.

I have to go through all of this hassle just so they will take $500 from my account which I lost on their website. A hassle, right? Oh, my account was deactivated until I fax those forms. I called them and without giving them my name, I asked what could be done if I had enough money to pay off the debt in my account?

It doesn't matter if you won or lost....you owe them $500 bucks. You never deposited anything to them yet they gave you $500. Too bad so sad...just pay what you owe.

Next time, come to Vegas.

Seems to me there was a law passed within the past few months that playing games on the net for money (gambling) is now illegal. So I wouldn't worry about any deactivated account if I were you.

However if you lost the game and they tried to take money out and maybe they transposed numbers or something and they can't take money from your account then they will consider you have bilked them and eventually will take you to court and come after you if you don't solve the problem. That will expose you to having been gambling online and I don't know if the judge will turn around and charge you for that or not. So solve the problem so they don't have to take you to court. If I were in that jam I'm phone them and identify myself and tell them the problem, then ask them first what number they used for you (then verify it with your bank account number). If they were wrong then fine, correct it, and talk it out to be sure it's them who want your banking information and not some jokster pulling a scam on you. If they had the correct number then tell them to put it thru again and get back with you if that doesn't correct the problem.

I would check into what the one person said about if this is now illegal, if it is, let it lie.

If not, ask them to verify with you the numbers that they have (the ones you previously gave them). Only confirm with them yes or no the numbers were correct, verbatim. Don't give them a long leash.

Unless they have specific personal information about you, ie your ssn, etc... then they can't report it to your credit report.

Play it safe and consider your lesson learned.

it is fairly useful to look up that FDCPA reference in the previous you employ that template. those letters you won from the sequence businesses probably completely conceal the FDCPA validation standards. in actuality, the know-how ought to comprise the call of the orginal creditor, quantity, dates, and notices of your spectacular to dispute. it is fairly useful to re-examine any suggestion you get carry of from in spite of "credit professional" internet site on condition that variety letter. you be attentive to the charges are yours. do not play the validation game. it fairly is probably to reason you lots greater issues. The creditors could purely sue. CatDad gave you some solid suggestion approximately saving up and making settlement promises one after the other. once you write those settlement grant letters, use your guy or woman words. do not place self belief in a style letter.
