I am thinking about becoming a Justice of the Peace. It is definitely something that I want to do, but I am a born-again Christian and I want to know if there is anything that I should know that may compromise my religious beliefs, because I do not want to become a JP if it will compromise my beliefs. Serious answers please. Thanks for all of your help.

Can you be impartial regarding those who do not share your beliefs and who might even mock them?

"Becoming" a JP depends on WHERE you live/reside.

In Texas, the JP has to be elected. Also the JP has to be a licensed attorney for a couple of years prior to taking the bench.

The only "bench" in Texas that a non-attorney may take is the Municipal Court (note: NOT the Municipal Court of Record).

Pretty sure that performing the duties of the bench is NOT a religious compromise.

I see no compromise in the Office of Justice of the Peace and religion except for that duty of performing marriages. I would view that moment of the office to be a time in which to stand testament for God. If for some reason you found the marriage of two individuals to be troubling to your religious beliefs, you may suggest other magistrates for them to contact.

A Justice of the Peace is not a religion. You are able to witness and sign legal documents and get a stamp with a number. So do not fear you can become a Justice of the Peace just ask your TAFE( in Australia) or your community college how to go about it :)

God Bless!

There will be much compromise because of the seperation of church and state. But if you can stand your ground- then GO FOR IT!

being a J.P. has nothing to do with religion, as a J.P. you are unbiased in any thing that you are requierd to do.
