My grandfather was on the uss franklin when it was bombed and went back to save people and he was promised (verbally) to receive his full salary when he was finished serving. Does this claim have any merit?

This is the first time I have ever heard that claim. Typically a military member must complete 20 years of active service and then receive just 50% of their base pay to a top amount of 75% with 30 or more years of service. I have never heard of anyone receiving 100%.

And we all know the value of a written contract. I doubt there is any validity to the claim.
