I don't think there is a ' best' breed . Dogs have different temperments and personalities, kinda like people , and some dogs are better suited to do certain things or be better with people than other dogs.
Plus it depends on where you live , if it's a house or an apt. You wouldn't put a Newfoundland in a small apartment for example.
Golden retrievers are usually in the top ten for being most family friendly dogs . I like most retrievers for family pets, especially those who are crossed with some other kind of dog. They used to call em mutts , now they're designer breeds.
Check your local spca or humane society before sinking alot of money into pedigreed dog, pound dogs are just as loveable.

Depends on the size and type of dog you are looking for. Boxers are great companions, very intelligent, loving, and really funny.
Try doing a search for dog breed selector, you will see several different tools to select a breed. Go with what comes up most often for you!

In my opinion, a poodle is the best breed of dog. Hyper-allergic, very intelligent, very devoted.
But it also depends on what you are looking for in a dog. A big dog-standard poodle or a black or golden lab. For a small dog, miniature or toy poodles are great but they don't do well being left alone a lot.
If you are asking because you want information to help decide what kind of dog to get, you should first decide what size of dog you want and how much time you can spend with it and if its to be an inside or outside dog.
Hope this helps.

Everyone has different needs and wants when it comes to having a dog. I had a border collie for years (she just recently passed away of old age :-( ), and I loved her. I wanted a dog that was loyal, active and intelligent, and thats what I got. The next dog my husband and I plan on getting is a greater swiss mountain dog, a breed he formerly owned, because they are great working dogs and are super learners. They are big though, so they definately wouldn't be for everyone. Try the dog breed selector... it can be fun and somewhat useful!

BOSTON TERRIERS! I was raised with large pound mutts but when my boyfriend & I decided to get a dog in a nyc apartment, we decided we should get a small breed. BT's are big dogs in cute little packages & have more personality than any dog I've met!

Well, it really does depend on you...but generally, I would say the best pure bred dog is a Labrador Retreiver. They are very smart and very loyal. But, truly, I would say the best dogs are muts. You can get the best of many breeds this way. I have a lab, rott, german shepherd, collie mix....he is the bomb...he is extremely smart, very loyal, very loveable, very playful, and very strong. Look for a dog that fits your needs and your personality the best and love him with all your heart and more than likely he will return the favor.

It depends on your needs and lifestyle but for our active family with young children, the best breed for us is our pug, "Pebbles".
