Evolution IS science... you can't remove that anymore than you can remove Jesus from Christianity.

Think of cloning. You understand that? You 'believe' in cloning? Of course you do. You've no doubt seen Dolly the sheep and have read articles explaining the science. So cloning is real and it is a form of reproduction. You with me so far...? Now I'm going to alarm you. Cloning is a form of reproduction in which evolution cannot occur. That is not true reproduction in which evolution occurs at each generation, because it's merely a copy of living cells. Don't be scared by evolution. It's just change. If you're exactly the same as your father then you're a clone and evolution has not occurred. But if you're slightly different, then you have evolved. Of course, only very slightly, but that's what evolution is - gradual change over many generations.

I think that you can prove it by fossil stratification alone. It is the ENTIRE basis for modern Biology. If you don't believe it, then the whole medication testing model system that they use to test drugs on isn't valid. Why would you take untested medication? I mean you couldn't possibly think that if it works on a rat it would work on a human could you? You probably should just stick with penicillin.

Why do we have an appendix? Or inner eyelids that don't close, or wisdom teeth, or body hair, or a bunch of DNA that we don't use? Those things are all left over. In the last thousand years we have gotten about 2 ft taller, you can see that if you look at old beds. Out little toe is getting smaller, our jaw is too.

I could go on, but you get the point. There is a mountain of evidence. The creation story doesn't explain any of that.

Since science is a self-correction enterprise, and is the search for the truth in nature, I will give you science's answer. Science is for everyone, it's a tool we humans use to uncover the mysteries of the universe. By limiting your mind and deluding yourself from the awesome truths revealed by science, you are missing out on some of the most humbling thoughts about our true origins. Not what some mind virus called religion wants you to believe. It is so much more amazing to know that all life, humans included, evolved from a single instance. That all life is connected and made of the same elements.

the proof is what other people have done for us. theres the proof. since we havent done any of the research we as individuals dont have physical proof.

but the same goes for you. give me your proof. tell me how you know creationism is correct. again like you said i want your thoughts not quotes or ideas put into your head by priests and a book written more than 1500 years ago (years distort facts by the way). so what are your thoughts, not what just so called "holy men" or a book put in your head. see now it gets hard.

your question is faulty.

1. nobody can 'prove' evolution to the extent you are apprarently demanding

2. Why in the world would you expect proof or demonstration without any sort of reference.

3. If you want my view (but this isn't proof) evolution is the unavoidable consequence of the combined effects of genetic mutation and natural selection. Over the course of millions of years, small changes will accumulate into major paradigm shifts in the way organisms survive.

4. Your question is a typical Creationist/ID attempt to demand proof but then set arbitrary rules by which that proof or demonstartion could be provided. It is utterl lacking in intellectual honesty.

If the thoughts are rational, why do you take issue what their source is?

We can observe the basic principles of evolution at work. In shorter-lived species, we can actually watch what is theorized unfold across a pretty good-sized number of generations.

Macro-evolution in essence is taking what we are capable of observing, and projecting the long-term results over a period of time we can't sit around and watch. We have fossil evidence that backs up these projections that are made.

For Creationists who are always complaining about the missing link, they seem very oblivious to the found links. There are days I think regardless of how many 'links' are found, Creationists will always whine about some undiscovered missing link. Realistically, how many links do you need?

Well the science is far better proof than my thoughts, but whatever.
Because most of an organism's traits are passed on genetically, it is logical that the traits that make an organism more successful and therefore more likely to reproduce will be more likely to be passed on to the next generation. Therefore over millions of years, that organism changes to ensure the greatest possible chance of reproduction.

You ask for proof and in the same question, you ask for our thoughts only. A bit contradictory, maybe you should get your story straight? By the way, you choose to believe in a silly book that was written many years ago. The scientific method provides proof. The difference between religious belief and scientific theory is that scientists are willing to admit that their theory might be flawed, whereas religious people refuse to believe that anything they believe might be wrong.
No scientists has put anything 'in my head'. I have studied the evidence provided by scientific method and chosen to believe in the proof, rather than what some old book tells me.
I know what is right and wrong. You let someone else decide for you.

1) Hey genius, religion and evolution aren't mutually exclusive, so why are you only posing the question to atheists?

2) You are asking a question purely about science, in the religion section. How hard is it for you to figure out where to ask questions?

2007-01-16 15:17:36 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

Well, I think you are making a wrong assumption when you JUST ask Atheists this question.

MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY Christians and other Theists agree with the science.

How many times does it have to be said on yahoo?!

Evolution is NOT Atheist dogma. It is a Scientific Theory. BTW, "Theory" does not mean it is "just a theory" - like some dude picked out of his rear some morning after drinking too much the night before.

and SCIENCE is the PROOF.
Scientists are using it daily in their experiments successfully.
