That tells me that your not saved. Your desire to go to church should be because you love the Lord. Do you know Jesus on a personal basis? If not and you want to know Him here is how. Jesus died for you because He loves you and if you would have been the only person on earth He would have done it for you alone. He sacrificed His life to give it to you. Say this prayer

Father, forgive me of my sin. I believe Jesus died for my sins, and that you raised Him up from the dead for my justification. So I ask Jesus to come into my heart right now and be my Lord and Savior, in Jesus name, Amen. (verbally confess this)

Is your fear normal? That depends on what part of the country you come from. Are you from the Bible Belt?

Church is a social institution that offers rituals that make some people feel better. That is all. All religions offer rituals. Anyway, organized religion is not the same as being spiritual. It is simply an option to practice rituals and religion with other people who believe in the same religion as you.

Historically, going to church in America offered a social and entertainment outlet to rural folks who were isolated from their neighbors. Also, telling people that they were going to burn in Hell was a great way to get more money in the collection plate.

Church is not God. Believing in God, praying, and being a good person are all actions that do not require church.

By the way, there are better ways to show God that you love him and mankind than by going to church. How about volunteering to help someone every Sunday?

Going to church is easy way out. Offering your time to people who need your help is really living Christ's words.

Alot of people start going to church for that very reason. However, just sitting on a pew will not keep you from going to Hell. Knowing God and being able to apply the principles of The Bible to your life will help you achieve your goal. Yes, you are totally "normal" in attending church right now, but you can change the reason you go and still keep your soul from spending eternity in a dark place. I see one person has already posted a great "sinner's prayer". That is a very good place to start. Remember, God is only a prayer away. He is not out of reach and unattainable. I talk to Him just like I do everyone else. Everyone has their own way of communicating with God. My way is to treat Him like my best friend because that's just what He is. If you are scared of going to Hell, tell Him. If you aren't sure how to live as a Christian, be honest with God. You can find a good Pastor to counsel you and help you with any questions you may have.

That is truly a bad reason to go to church because it is even a lie from Satan
Most religions teach that bad people will go to a fiery Hell of eternal torture Hell Do you know that even Good people go to Hell when they die? Hell is really just the common grave of mankind,
Have you ever seen someone tortured? Hopefully not! Deliberate torture is sickening and abhorrent. What, though, of torture inflicted by God?Can you imagine such a thing? Yet this is exactly what is implied by the teaching of Hell an official doctrine of many religions.
Imagine for a moment, the following horrific scene:A person being roasted on a hot iron plate. In his agony he screams for mercy, but nobody listens. The torture goes on and on, hour by hour, day by daywithout any pause!Whatever chrime the victim may have committed, would not your heart go out to him? What of the one who ordered the torture? Could he be a loving person? In no way!Love is mercyfull and shows pity. A loving father may punish his children, but he would never torture them!
Nevertheless, many religions teach that God tortures sinners in endlesshellfire. This is claimed, is devine justice. If thatis true, who created that terrible place of eternal torment? And who is responsible for the excruciating agonies inflicted there? The answer would seem obvious. If such a place really exists, then God would have to be the creator of it, and he would be responsible for what happens there.
Can you accept that? The Bible says:"God is Love"(1John4:8)Would a God of love inflict torture that even humans with any measure of decency find revolting? Surely not! Still, many believe that the wicked will go to a fiery hell and be tormented for ever. Is this teaching logical? The human life span is limited to 70 or 80 years. Even if someone perpetrated Extreme wickedness for his entire lifetime, would everlasting torment be a just punishment? No it would be grossly unjust to torment a person forever for the limited number of sins that he can commit in a lifetime.
Who knows the truth about what happens after we die?
Only God can reveal this information, and he has done so, in his written word the Bible. Here is what the Bible says:"As the[beast]dies, so the[man]dies; and they all have but one spirit......All are goingto one place. They have allcome from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust

What you’re saying is that you go to church but you really don’t know God. God does not want you to live your life in fear. He wants you to feel his profound love and comfort. If you are not experiencing his love, something is wrong. Perhaps it is the teachings of your particular church or perhaps you were raised to feel so much fear of hell that you are afraid of God now. I think this happens a lot, but it’s not supposed to be that way.

Try just talking to God. Tell him how you feel and ask him to help you get rid of the fear and experience his love.

I wouldn't say it's abnormal, but going to church won't assure you a place in heaven. Church should (although some do not) teach you that Jesus paid the price for the sins of you (and me and and everyone who has accepeted Him). Therefore, we will not go to hell which is the price of sin.

God wants a loving relationship with you, but He gave us all free will. I don't think he wants you to be afraid.

That's sometimes called "fire-insurance" Christianity. : ^ ) It isn't exactly normal, but at least you're going! May I suggest that, instead of focussing on the evil you want to avoid, you start focussing on the great treasures that God has in store for those who love Him? After all, just going to church won't keep you out of H*ll; it's a living relationship with God, through Christ Jesus, that will guarantee you a place at His table. Blessings to you!

That is definitely abnormal.
Ignorance is hellfire itself. The going to church will be meaningful only when one realizes that he goes there to look for the Holy Books to learn about the love and knowledge of God, and apply them in conducting a useful, happy and progressive life.

That gets a few people in the door but it won't keep you there.
Actually listen to what's going on and ask other people about why they are there. Hopefully you'll find some good reasons to stay. (Like Christ dieing for you and you wanting to team up with church members to get the word out).
