I just got bottom braces on yesterday, plus a top expander. It is hard to control my speech, and it sounds like i have a lisp. Is there away that I can speek more clearly with this expander in my mouth? If so, any suggestions?

Just got your bottom braces on and your upper palatal expander yesterday? Right? It usually takes a couple of days to get used to the just the expander being there, and you've got braces too, let's give it a quick minute to get to some talking normal again! Ok, your just a bit anxious, which is understandable, and I'm sure you don't want to repress your opinions, become instantly shy or recluse, or to spit on everybody when you talk either. So the best thing to do is practice in front of a mirror reading or just talking, maybe to the dog or cat so nobody thinks you've really lost it. And relax and slow down. It's a lot of hardware in your mouth for your tongue to play with and get used to being there. Your tongue aided by the roof of your mouth with all the grooves and ridges are important for the formation and pronunciation of words. Give yourself a little time before you start screaming about the quick sand. Remember Rome wasn't built in a day! Practice out loud and good luck!

Just keep talking a lot (practice) and try not to think about it. When you dwell on the lisp, it's more pronounced.
