Im a 12 year old girl and i have trouble sleeping. This just started this year i think but I can never go to sleep. Heres the thing: I go into bed at like 10:00 or so and close my eyes then every 2 minutes or somthing i'll wake up and look all around the room thinking horrible thoughts like someones gonna murder me or somthing and i'll do this until like 1:30am until im tired and it really scares me and in the morning i'll not know why I was even scared.
A lot of people say read a book until you get tired or whatever but that doesn't help me like if I do read I will be reading until 1:30 still and then im all tired because I have school that morning.
I really dont know what to do.
please someone help??

do not drink any coke, pepsi, tea, dr. pepper--nothing with caffeine. take a warm, relaxing bath before you go to bed. use your bed for only sleeping--don't eat, watch tv, etc. look up caffeine on the internet and see what else has caffeine, chocolate, etc. don't watch scarry shows on tv and don't read scarry books. take an allergy pill like benadryl--that will help make you sleepy. pray before you go to sleep and ask God to give you peaceful sleep. good night--

Well there is several possible things going on and maybe all at once. One cause is the monster under the bed paranoia. A number of events may have started this phenomena.
Do you have a memory of being scared awake and scared or terrified, particularly by an adult or authority figure? Second, do you have a history of childhood abuse, like being hit or spanked too frequently or too hard by an adult, or it could be terrified by an adult in just the way the adult yelled, hit or snarled at you?
Second, It could be the result of sudden or dramatic changes in you life that are hard to understand or accept, a common thing is problems when you migrant to a new and different place, or the loss of a parent or very close friend or family member. Orphans have really difficult adjustment problems for example.
Any of these types of things happening to you can upset and cause your body to constantly feel out of control and threaten.
Waking up scared may be the symptom as much as the problem.
One more thing, maybe you have a sleep disturbance like sleep apnea which is a breathing disorder that can repeatedly force you awake at night.
All of these situations are treatable. You need to talk to a doctor about these symptoms and problems.

Good question!

I have sleep issues myself, but they're not about /getting/ to sleep, they're about /staying/ asleep. However, my daughter who is about your age likes to fall asleep listening to a tape, CD or the radio. I think it keeps her mind off of all the stuff that might otherwise keep her awake, and she goes right to sleep. I used to do the same thing when I was your age. A recording of someone reading a story can be especially effective for this.

I hope this helps a little. I know how difficult it can be to lie awake in bed for a long time. Bleh.

at your age you should;nt be having sleeping problems ,,,is everything OK with you not under any pressure or the like....

if not then listen to relaxing music ask your mum for some of her CD;s etc the stuff you normally would;nt be caught by you friends listening too.as that may help. also don't drink anything like coke or coffee before bed
