Most people say that it doens't hurt. But how could it not? Its a needle throught your tongue. I want to get one but i'm a little scared. I have a tattoo and a belly button ring, and i handled them ok. So i was wondering how it feels to get your tongue pierced and is it worth it?

I've had my tongue pierced for two years now and I've never had any problems with the peircing. At the time when I got the piercing I had about twenty body piercings and for some reason getting my tongue pierced scared me the most. My expierence was that it turned out to be one of the most painless piercings I have ever had. My piercer was very quick with the piercing. All I felt was the slightest prick when he was lining up the needle and then soft pressure as the needle went through my tongue. After that I was only able to eat soft foods for about four days. Getting a tattoo hurts, in my opinion, way more than a piercing. The piercing is quick, whereas the tattoo is repetitive. Sometimes when a person says that the piercing hurt, it was the result of an slow piercing or inexperienced body piercer. Sometimes it's also because of the jewelry being used. If the piercing is place correctly it wont affect your speech or your enamel. Your speech will be a little slured for the first few days, but after the swelling goes down it will return to normal. And yes, there is a risk of infection. But that is the risk we all take when we get any sort of body modification. All the body modifier can do is lower their risk of potentially harming you and informing you of all the risks and informing you of your aftercare responsibility. My wife thinks getting my tongue pierced was worth it, and I think getting her tongue pierced was worth it...they're fun!

Oh please, stop telling the girl bullshit...
When your getting your tongue pierced, it hurts for a second. Your tongue will be held with a clamp and once the needle go through it, its so quick. Everyone is different, when I got my tongue pierced it was just sore for about 2-3 days and then it was good, you won't be able to eat for the first day but the soreness with go away. Some peoples tongue get thicker, some some people tongue stay the same like mine, who ever does it for you will give you the antibacterial stray and mouthwash for you to use, but its better to get all the information you need from the professional, and it will not mess up your teeth. Just be careful with your eating, you have to know how to control your tongue and the ring cause one day you slip up and chomp down on your ring. Also it only effects your speech for that fact that your tongue is swollen, do it with a friend, ya'll will be drooling and talking in tongues together lol

Ok when I got mine pierced August 3rd, 2006 I didn't hurt it just felt like I bit my tongue then once I got home I was hungry and I couldn't eat that sucked! Mine was swollen for about a week it only hurt for a few days. Took me awhile to get used to it. At first I just did it just because my fiancee said I was scared and I was gonna take it out. Now I love it, its apart of me. It takes about a week for the swelling to go down but after that maybe a month before you get used to it. Do NOT get plastic balls though because if you're like me your going to forget and bite down on it and it'll get chipped also make sure its tight! When you get it pierced use the one they pierced it with but after the swelling goes down change it. I love my tongue ring so much thouse. Email me and let me know about the belly because I wont that next. I have 2 tattoos, 3 holes in my ears, nose and tongue rings. LOL. Yeah but I think it's worth it plus I paid for it and I'm not ready to take it out unless I'm at work. Good luck and have plently ICE and mouth wash. Carry mouth wash with you everywhere. They told me you can use any kind and I'm a smoker so I always needed it but take it off and close the drain brush your tongue and don't use peroxide I had such a bad experience. I hope that helps email itzcarmelpus@yahoo for more info if you need it. :-)

I have two and I'm sure everyone would agree that ever body's pain tolerance is different but I think if you could handle a belly button piercing and a tattoo then you can definitely handle a tongue piercing...go for it and Good Luck!!!

Yes it hurts! For a second. Its worth it! Your tongue will swell up for a few days after and it will be hard to eat but after about 5 days its good! And i changed mine 2 weeks after.. because my bar was so long and it was annoying. I wasnt suppose to but Ive never had a problem with it! Get it done! All piercings hurt, but the pain is only temporary!

you actually can't feel the needle go thru. the reason is that there are no pain receptors in the CENTER of your tongue. it's different than biting your tongue. i have had my tongue pierced two times and i didn't feel it either time. it really doesn't hurt. AFTERWARD the swelling hurts but the actual piercing part does not.

Oh my god! I bet most of these ppl answering don't even have their tongue pierced cuz they just talk sh!t......I have had mine for a few years now & I can honestly say that piercing it doesn't hurt! You can feel it, but it's not painful..... the worst part is the aftercare but if that doesn't worry you then you will have no trouble since you've already got your belly done plus a tat...... forget what ppl say about it getting infected, as long as you follow your piercers aftercare instructions I doubt you will have a problem...... yes it does swell & you can't eat properly for a few days afterwards.... & did I read you will have to relearn how to talk?? lmao I don't know why ppl come on here & waste their time (not to mention ours) answering questions in the tattoo/piercing category if you are against it?? tell me why?? Why don't you go to a category you are actually interested in?

One more thing….. I just have to comment on the chick that wrote “……you may lose sensibility in your tongue." ???? lmao .... thanks for the laugh.... (psst.... I think you mean sensitivity??) Pity xmas is over, could've asked santa for a dictionary........

It a really bad idea.Your teeth get messed up and you lose the feeling around the piercing and it hurts so bad.My friend got it done and she would like cry cuz it hit her teeth and her when it was still healing and she said it hurt way worse then her belly piercing.Don't do it cuz it really isn't worth it.

you will be fine! i got my rook pierced (thick cartilage) and i was also extremmly nervous but what calmed me down is by thinking its just a pinch, the pain will only be temporary and it will look awesome once healed. pain shoudl not eb the deciding factor in a piercing. i dont have it pierced. but people said rook piercings always took longer for the needle to go throug but it didnt! lol it will be a quick stab and then it will be allover with.. except of course for the next few days it will be sore and swollen you will esentially need to relearn how to eat and talk again..a nd after a week please go back to the pierce place and get it downsized to alost eliminate the risk of chipping your teeth! VERY IMPORTANT. as you know they give you a larger piece of jewely for yoru mouth to accomidate the swelling. but get it downsized adter a week since the swelling will be mostly gone!

get it done good luck! im thinking about getting mine done too!

please read tis link. it says wait 3 to 5 weeks before downsizing but ask your piercer abotu doing so anyways!

Definitely, it's not worth it. The pierced toungue is like an open wound. Although it is healed, it is always prone to infection. Besides, you will be carrying inside your mouth a foreign body (a ring) which is also prone to infection.

Furthermore, there are a lot of inconveniences (always rinsing or cleaning your mouth; difficulty in eating or chewing food; choosing tender food, not the hard ones; you must always be extra careful not to grind it with your teeth expecially when you are asleep, your manner of speaking is affected, etc.).

It might be the "IN" thing, but it's not worth it.
