Throughout the Old Testament God gave His people a chance to obey Him and trust Him and repeatedly they refused and chose their own way. God is a just God. He could not allow sin to continue. So he allowed them to reap the consequences of their actions. He was always long-suffering, always forgiving. Atheists always throw out random scriptures and cry foul on God, but they fail to understand why those things happened....it was the consequence for rebellion and the peoples repeated disobedience and worshipping false gods. Why is it so hard to understand that God must punish wickedness?

Because I don't think atheists know right from wrong. The longer I am on this site the more convinced I am that they really don't believe that people have a sinful nature and were that way since birth. Also, they do not understand the wickedness that existed at that time. They accuse God of killing children and yet the pagans tortured children and offered them up to their idols for sacrifice. Baby girls would just be dump off somewhere and left to die.

Sure, God was only being mean to punish people. But two wrongs don't make a right. His actions, although consistent with the morals of the time, are still unethical by today's standards. And it isn't in the nature of a God to have to develop morals at the same rate as his creations, he's meant to be omniscient.

I actually have continually considered God as my genuine Father. i imagine 1 reason human beings do not realize is they don't seem to be yet waiting to have a authentic courting with God. they don't seem to be yet waiting for the dedication it takes to have a real courting with God. a real courting with God isn't right here faster or later and then lengthy gone the subsequent. it truly is a life-time dedication. some human beings do no longer opt for to understand and obey, it truly is the genuine reason. i'm so satisfied I chosen to understand and obey. He has filled my existence with a lot excitement and delight!!!

Everything is difficult to understand, especially with people who refuse to learn, to think, to observe mutual love and respect.
Even believers of the same religion don't understand the teachings and act the same way. We really need mutual love and respect to gradually reach mutual understanding.
Most of us are still like ignorant children who look down upon their peers. Then they will only rethink at their own deadlock!

Yes, if I was an atheist I would not believe in god so I could not cry foul. I hope you will study your bible more closely. And follow the example. If you are looking to reach out to others please do it by example. Scorn only causes a negative ripple.

Well, _why_ must God punish wickedness? And if God _must_ punish wickedness, how was he able to get away with taking it out on his son instead of us? Wouldn't that also be wicked?

I agree to an extent, but I have also to say that I don't believe God punishes any one. He loves us for who we are and since we are created to his resemblance, we all are one with him. All the "punishments" are results of our own actions, and us only us are responsible for them, that is why God gave all of us free will.
That is what gets us into trouble, our decisions, actions and the stubbornness not to refrain, retract our selves from sin.

He was always forgiving...and he must punish wickedness.

Arguments that directly contradict themselves are invalid. You should have thought more about this before posting rude comments about others' understandings, since your own is obviously flawed.

You mean like this, where he kills 42 children for calling Elisa bald?:

Kings2 :23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.
2:24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

god created wickedness and evil, if you beleive in the nonsense in the bible.

plus, as an all-knowing god, he already knows how the future will turn out, and how people will act on their free will.

so, he shouldn't be surprised or angry when they act as he already knows they will act, when they are faced with the evil he created for them.

fact is, if you are intelligent, you don't buy the contorversy or nonsense in that silly cult book. so, there you have it.
