I agree that they have self confidence and a keen awareness of what/who is around them. Sometimes people appear to be shy but when you get them alone and let them get to know you, they are anything but shy. My mother always said, "Still waters run deep". I agree. I like quiet, "shy" people because of the depth I usually find--and I can usually see it in their face/eyes when they let down their guard.

I've noticed in one of my classes that when the teacher asks a question and noboby answers, there is this one person that you can see it in their face that they want to answer, but it looks like they are afraid.
I have never noticed anything like this before because I used to be quiet and it was me that we are talking about. I overcame this shyness through a TRIO program. I would suggest to you if you are shy, find one of these programs and get involved. Or join a club that involves community service. You can always meet new people this way and become comfortable talking to people. The more a shy person becomes part of a group, the less shy they will become.

It sounds like they think you're attractive. The grinning implies that they're trying to make a connection with you, and they're happy to be around you. If there are two people staring at you together and they're laughing, that's probably not good. If you think the people looking at you are pretty good-looking, too, try smiling back at them flirtily. Who knows, you may end up with a new friend.

I think that typically shy people do the same things as extroverted and friendly people but in a quieter manner. They are usually busy observing their surroundings but are very good listeners as well.

Usually, a quiet SELF CONFIDENCE. They only lose that when they have to face others, but in private they have plenty of it.

They avoid eye contact. They have their arms folded in front of them. They listen intently.
