Bound's hubby here:
A .50 caliber bullet is 1/2 inch in diameter and weighs anywhere from roughly 480 grains to over 800 grains depending upon the purpose of the particular bullet (there are 7,000 grains in a pound).
Good luck.

depends on what kind of 50 bullet you mean? .50 BMG? 12.7mm Russian? 50 action express in the desert eagle? a 50 cal muzzle loader (musket) ball?
all different. the .50 BMG and the 12.7 Russian are both about the size of a BIG cigar. a 50 action express looks like a 44 mag, but bigger in every way way by a fair amount, and a 50 cal musket ball is a ball that is half and inch around and fires with about 120 grains of black powder.

The bullet would be .50 caliber which means that it is 1/2 inch in diameter. Now IF your talking about a .50 muzzleloader typically they shoot a .490-.495 roundball or a saboted round which could be as small as .429 (.44 mag bullet).

the calibre actually describes the diameter of the bullet so this would be 0.5 of an inch the lenght of the bullet itself will varies dependant on type of round used but will make a big hole in just about anything

For comparison purposes of .50 BMG (12.7x99mm) about as big as the tip of your finger to the second (middle) joint.
The bullet itself is not 99mm in length, this is the length of the case of the cartridge.
The overall length of the round is around 138 mm, so the bullet itself is actually 40 mm + in length, to tell the truth I don't know the exact length of the bullet itself.
