It is highly unlikely that you will be able to find such a thing, for several reasons. First, in 1958, no aircraft manufacturer made or supplied Pilot Operating Handbooks for any light aircraft - instead, they printed and supplied owner's manuals. POHs didn't come out until the mid-70's, actually 1976 or 77, as I recall. Most of the information is in the owner's manuals, but they are laid out a bit differently.

Second, they are copyrighted material, and Cessna has never been known to offer these items at no cost, and would probably prosecute anybody offering them on a website. Beech has gone after people reprinting their manuals with lawsuits, and prevailed. You can buy Cessna owner's manuals (and, even reprints) from severa sources, including Cessna. By the way, you need to specify the aircraft model when you order the manual.

As noted before, in 1958 only an Owner's manual was available. You could get the type certificate info and have a POH written for your aircraft and petition the FAA to approve it for use. Since no two are alike any more, a POH for one 172 won't be legal for another. All changes made to the aircraft that are related to certificated equipment installed at the time of manufacture must be individually addressed. Weight and balance sheets must be updated, etc.

I agree with the person before me. You will not be able to find a POH to download. Depending on the model, you may be able to find a POH available through ebay that will be similar (ebay has everything now-a-days) or ask at your local GA airport - many schools have POH's on sale for the planes they rent out.

You might try Cessna on the web or go to the public library.
