I thought of a cousin of mine who was a Marine in the late 1960's and early 1970's... he was the stereotype image of a Marine... tall, muscular, square jaw, close cut hair, and confident. I also remember him telling me I could not make it in the Corps because I was too small. Imagine his surprise when, after graduating Marine bootcamp in 1989 I showed up at his house wearing my dress blues and grinning from ear to ear. That was 17 years ago and now I'm a Marine Major, praciticing law in the Corps. This isn't a long piece, but I hope it helps. Good luck.

I was an Army brat, and when I would young, I remember seeing a Marine on base. I knew about that time I wanted to be a part of that.

Can't remember the first time I read the word, but I remember that moment.

Better question, ask what they thought when they were standing on those yellow footprints.

I was think "what have I gotten myself into now?"

Best years of my life though!

I thought of my dad. When I was a kid, I didn't really understand what it was to be a Marine, but when I enlisted, and I earned my title, I had the biggest rush I've ever had in my life. As tacky as it may sound, I returned home. The Marines in my mind have always been my family, and I do my best to try to live up to their expectations.

Island hopping in the Pacific during WW2. It was dirty, dangerous work and I am grateful for them. This coming from an Army puke.
