I'd rather not crate train, is there another way? Any tips would be appreciated!

I am using training pads, not just paper.

Personally, paper training is crazy unless you expect her to go in a certain place in your HOUSE the rest of her life.
Take her outdoors if thats where you want her to go.

Step 1: Confine your dog. It's not fair to expect your puppy to understand housetraining if you give him free run of the whole house. Keep him with you at all times or crate when they are alone.
Step 2. Teach your puppy "permission to potty". When he goes, say "good business" like it's the most exciting thing on earth. Reinforce with a treat.
Step 3. Use house training pads. You can find them at Petco/petsmart or the like. You place the pads, which have been treated with an odor that humans don't smell, but smells like urine to the pup. Most dogs will "do business" right then and there!

why paper train? you are just teaching your pet it is ok to potty inside,and on paper. they cant differentiate what paper,i.e. magazines,newspapers,bills... are ok to go on . very confusing. if you must teach them to go inside, get potty training pad at pet store,ALWAYS keep it in the same place and stick to the same brand. they have diferent pherimones on them . very time consuming at first but it will pay off in the lifetime of your pet

There is a spray that you can buy to attract them to the paper where you want them to go. You can find it in just about any pet shop.

teach her to go outside and then praise her or give her a treat that'll go the trick
