This is why I want to know an estimated time when he should reach sexual maturity, so I can seperate them.

It's possible! Keep them VERY separated. Don't underestimate what a male dog will do to get to the female... They will break windows, destroy dog crates, eat through doors, demolish fences....

They are both old enough now to have spayed and neutered. Neutering is cheaper. You should call the vet and make an appointment for him right now... Then you won't have to worry about it. It will certainly be a pain in the butt to keep them separated for 3-4 weeks while she is in heat.

And if you think you can't afford to have either of them "fixed", just be sure you know that an accidental litter of puppies will cost you MUCH MORE. If she gets pregnant make sure you have about $3000 saved up for possible vet bills (puppy shots, wormings, vet checks, possible C-section, "mom" could get a uterine infection - which could also kill her). And if she were to get accidentally pregnant, young immature mothers often refuse to have anything to do with the puppies once they are born... Or they may just simply kill and/or eat all of the babies.

Simple - spay the female and neuter the male. Why would you risk a breeding?

Oh come on! "So I can separate them?" What the hell? Do everyone a favor and get them all fixed! It is the sane, sensible, humane thing to do!

Forget separating them. You need to have them both fixed.

He is definitely old enough - keep them separated while she's in heat.
