To clear things up, in its current iteration this restaurant has always been a Clyde's, the only thing it has in common with the original is the name. It is fine for children, and while they try to upscale their food, they sell mostly mediocre sandwiches, so no, it is not upscale. I would rank it near the top of the over-rated restaurants in Washington (right behind the "temporarily" shuttered Galileo).

Old Ebbitt Grill was bought a few years ago by Clyde's, and has the nice CLyde's dependable, mid-priced menu. There are some wonderful items. The canelloni is delicious, and I think any kid would love it. Deserts are wonderful but usually the portions are so large we don't make it to desert.
It's not cheap, but it's not ridiculous, either. I think kids would be fine there!

It's good quality food, not incredibly upscale. They cater to a lot of tourists with kids, and feature a kids' menu. View the kids' menu at http://www.ebbitt.com/main/home.cfm?Section=Kids_Menu&Category=Menus

It's good. I also recommend Martin's, The Peacock, Nathan's, or Chadwicks.

check out their website and decide for yourself. It's a great place but a little expensive for my tastes.
