~~Okay, asked this question before and didn't get a good response. Hoping my title catches a few more eyes this time.

For my birthday this year, I'm planning to host a Murder Mystery Dinner.

For those of you who don't know what it is, it's pretty much like the movie Clue. You have guests arrive, knowing various facts about other guests. Then you have a dinner and then in the middle of it, someone is murdered and from there clues and interrogations are done and voila. Clue.

But my issue is...I'm making it myself, along with a friend, and we're trying to figure out a good plot with lots of twists. So if anyone has any ideas on a good plot, put it on here and please don't suggest "Get this kit!" i'm on a budget...which is why I'm doing this myself and I'd rather not pay for this myself. If you have a site that has good mystery stories, that works too.

I'm just looking for a good mystery plot.

Well, I've never done one of those before but from multiple viewings of the movie Clue, lol, I do know one thing. Each character (or at least more than 1) should have a motive for killing the victim.

For example, Sue is married to Bob. Sue was having a love affair with Al but he dumped her for Mary. Bob finds out about the affair. Al ends up dead. So who has a better motive? Sue is a scorned lover but Bob is a jealous husband. It could be either so that is where the small details come into play.

There can also be some blackmail involved. Maybe Al knew Tom is trading miliary secrets with Russia (a bit outdated, but whatever) so he was forcing Tom to pay him for his silence. Tom could've killed Al because he got fed up with Al's blackmail.

It's fun to think up different motives for characters. Check out some CSI episodes for more, I'm sure they have loads. And using some cues from Clue isn't too bad either. Just make sure you invite people who can really get into character!
