I've been sick for about 3 weeks now, at first they thought sinus infection, then they thought mono, then they thought strep, then they thought mono again, so anyway, the first Monospot test came back negative so they did a throat culture for strep - Also negative.

I went back to the doctor, and they did a full blood test and confirmed that I do indeed have Mono.

I have some swollen lymph nodes on the right side of my neck from just under my jaw all the way down the right side, to my collarbone. The ones up by my jaw are the most swollen, visibly. The others are much smaller.

I was wondering how long Mono keeps your lymph nodes swollen for, roughly? I have an appointment with an ENT tomorrow to get them checked out, but I just found out it was Mono today... I'm wondering if I should still go to the ENT, since I can't really afford it right now and it's quite a journey to get there, and now I know what I have, I know the probable cause too.

So far they've been swollen about 3 weeks.

My daughter had mono and her glands were so swollen they looked like she had the mumps and it took months for them to return to normal. The Dr. said it had to run it's course and could take a year to fully recover.

Your lymphatic equipment is in some methods like your body's sewer equipment. i'm positive you study about the wonders of the circulatory equipment; your lymphatic equipment is the position your blood cells unload their junk. generally, your lymphatic equipment receives flushed out some cases an afternoon. besides the undeniable fact that, each so often the 'junk' builds up or isn't good flushed out - like even as someone is unwell. it truly is generally even as human beings will word their lymph nodes are swollen. The lymph node that you're saying has been there for years - has it been swollen for years, or only palpable? generally they are slightly palpable. There are lymph nodes close on your breasts. in the middle a lengthy time period, between the indicators of Black Plague became enlarged "buboes" - swollen axillary lymph nodes. they are placed round your armpits. Lymph nodes are everywhere in the body, no longer only your neck. probability is that your body is attempting to strive against off an infection. i have had badly swolen lymph nodes two times so some distance - the first time I were uncovered to Cat Scratch Fever (i became fortunate now to not have the total ailment!) and the 2d time i became scuffling with a raging strep throat. relying on how lengthy your nodes were swollen, your physician will likely attempt you for infections and grant you with some antibiotic meds. i wish you get extra useful quickly!

It can last several weeks like you describe. You need to start some steroids very soon to alleviate a lot of the swelling. I would say skip the ENT and get an Rx from your regular doc for some steriods, they helped clear my mono up in about a week.

Mono is called by the Epstein Barr Virus. There is no real treatment for it unless you have tonsilits with it. Or something similar. For Mono, you basically have to ride it out. Take a pain reliever, drink lots of water, and sleep. Been there, done that. I know how it feels. Good Luck!
