I think there should be an amnesty, because with an amnesty, you will have all these people that no longer feel alienated from the culture because they are not legal. They will become dumb americanized consumers that will feed the government even more taxes. of course, an amnesty would not benefit the corporations * cough* i mean the government of america because then the immigrants could ask for more money than they are being paid and therfore would drive the economy down. And here is proof that immigration improves the economy http://www.aclu.org/immigrants/gen/11665res20020312.html
What do you think? (ignorant anti immigration comments ensue)

so you would rather live in a worsened economy (as if a 300 trillion dollar debt wasn't enough) than let a few immigrants in? the politicians don't care about little laws as long as they are raking in that green.

the truth is, you won't ever be able to keep us out (i am an immigrant) no matter how hard you try. tunnels can be dug, immigrant officials can be paid off.....you can keep blaming your problems on us, but we'll keep coming.

No, it will cost over $500 billion. That does not include the poverty it will create.
ACLU is against democracy. California voters voted to take away benefits from illegal aliens and the ACLU sued to stop it.

Amnesty never has worked, look Regan was the last, very few took part, it did not fix anything. With this in mind, who thinks it will work this time. As for your link, anything put out by the ACLU, can not be good for the U. S. A. A study done by the U- of Iowa showed that the price of farm produce would only go up 3 % in the summer, and 4 % in the winter.

You have a right to your opinion, but I strongly suspect that your opinions towards illegals may differ if you were one of the thousands of people waiting their turn to come here legally.
As far as your parting shot about ignorant anti-immigration commentary goes, I, for one, am very well educated. I have a degree is Psychology and a masters in Forensic Science. I STRONGLY support immigration to this country, as long as it is done legally. Oh yes...one more thing...I am an Agent for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Now here is MY parting shot. I'm sure you have heard the term "History repeats itself." I am equally certain that you have heard of the fall of the Roman Empire. Rome controlled Europe and northern Africa for nearly 1000 years. What caused its demise in 476 A.D.? Uncontrolled immigration triggered economic factors which forced excessive taxation upon the people. Sound familiar?
STILL not convinced? Watch this video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5871651411393887069
I admit its a little dry in the beginning, but I guarantee you will learn something.

Oh good heavens, a case for amnesty from the ACLU. What a surprise. This is an organization run by a bunch of trust fund brats who, feeling guilty for the privilege they got from being born into wealth, never actually had to work an honest day in their sorry lives, and feel that this is a way of... "giving back" to the community.

From the signs at these protests, and from the things pro amnesty people say on here... 'they' have no interest in becoming americanized.
And also from the things that are said, they are already dumb.
And they are already consumers. They just consume what belongs to those of us who pay.
explain how making millions of more people able to easily and legally draw welfare, SSI, unemployment and things like that is going to improve the USA.
To answer your what welfare... im talking about being able to draw from the system when they havent been contributing to it for years like many of us. examples...
Unemployment compensation... show up in the USA work for a couple months ... go on unemployment...
SSI benefits... come to the USA with a deblitating injury... draw SSI benefits without ever even payin a dime into them...
Medicare.... come to the USA at a senior age... get medicare and SSI without ever paying a dime into the system.
This isnt even considering your regular old monthly alotment of cash and food from welfare, or the use of WIC, Low-income subsidized housing.. HUD homes...
All of this is completely or partially funded by taxes that people can come here and get amnesty and then draw on those programs without ever contributing to them.. creating a further burden upon already burdened systems...
So there is your answer to what welfare...

100% there should be...You should be here in Vegas when the INS ploughs through removing people from landscaping, construction, swap meet, etc. It drives the prices up, not to mention the horrible wait time, every time they do it.
If people want to come here, work at the jobs that nobody else wants, pay their taxes, and be a contributor to societs, than what idiot would think we'd be better off without them?
Not to mention the fact that as humans, we only get to live once. I, for one, sure as hell wouldn't want any gov't telling me that I have to live in a poverty ridden country because of immigration.
Come on people...have a little empathy! How would you feel if you were born in an impoverished nation, grew up to have a family, work hard & still have nothing?
As a responsibel human, it would be your DUTY to try to move your family to a better place!
Not allowing the free movement of humans only contributes to Communism & Dictatorships, which everyone professes to hate so much.
We all only have one life to live...let people live it where they choose!

I disagree. Granting amnesty just encourages new waves of illegal immigration by people who know that if they just hang on long enough they will get to be citizens for free. There was one amnesty already which resulted in a much increased volume of illegals swarming over the border

These people have broken our laws. This is a fact. An undeniable fact. You want them to be rewarded for being a criminal. Please. Please just deport all of them and when/if they legally apply for legal immigration, then they can come back.

They broke the law coming here. They do not get to be rewarded for that. I do not care what the excuse is.
