Yes you can take formula, there is no specific limit. And FYI, airplanes dont have microwaves. Older aircrafts have the warming ovens, but usually a bottle is just warmed in a cup of hot water. Make sure you put the bottles inside a ziploc bag because as the aircraft changes altitude, the milk can leak. Especially Dr. Brown's bottles. Just make sure that you take them out of the diaper bag at security and put them in the bin. Some TSA agents are snooty and want it out, some just want it visible. Make sure if you take hand sanitizer, medicine, baby butt cream or any other liquids, gels or creams all need to go in a ziploc bag.
The TSA website outlines it all, but they cant keep you from taking formula. I go ahead and warm the bottles, because its a pain in the butt to warm it at the airport, that way they are atleast room temperature when the baby is ready to feed. They say its only good for 2 hrs after you take it out of cold storage, but if you're on a 4 hr flight or longer, an icepack can melt and be more of a pain then anything. And Ive tried several travel warmers and the best thing is a hot cup of water. Take a large cup with you from hom and have the FA fill it half way up with water and just submerge the bottle for a few minutes. That way if you dont microwave your bottles anyway, it warms the milk evenly and not just the plastic preventing pockets of super hot liquid.
When you board the flight, have a bottle or two out and put them in the seat back pocket. It can be difficult to reach under the seat in front of you, especially if the baby is infant in arms. Make sure they drink on take off and landing. And suck a pacifier, if they do, during the flight. This will help to equalize their ears, since babies cant like an adult can.
Another bit of advice is always ask for pre-boarding when you get to the gate and get your stroller tagged for gate check. Make sure you do this BEFORE boarding starts. If they dont invite you to preboard, board with the first zone, section or seating group, whatever that airline may call it. Most airlines wont say anything since you have a kid. Its easier to go down and take your seat when there are few people boarding, rather than 200 behind you while you fold up the stroller etc.
And TSA wont make you drink any of the formula.
Bringing powdered formula is even MORE of a hassle. You cant bring water through security. Even though they say you can for medical need or mixing bottles, Ive gotten into heated arguments about sterile water in a thermous at TSA and nearly missed my flight. Water on the other side on the concourses is NOT sterile and my daughter projectile vomited for 2 days after we landed because of that. Had to take her to the ER on the 2nd day. Ready to feed formula will be ok, even if your flight is 4 hrs, you dont have much choice.

You are allowed to bring baby formula on the plane but unfortunately airport security will make you drink some to prove that is what it is.

Yes you can. Keep it in a small cooler with an Blue Ice pack to keep it cold. The flight attendants can warm it up for you in their microwaves.

Stop flying until the morons in charge wise up enough (or go broke enough) that you don't have to ask.
