It's better than heroin, as far as cleanliness and over all health. But really, its just a way for the government to control your addiction and profit from it. I would say admit yourself into a rehab if you can. Go through the withdrawals the old fashioned way in a controlled environment where you won't die.

Methadone is a narcotic. The best way to come off is in a medical setting. Never go cold turkey without supervision

Methadone can be very helpful to the addict who has experienced multiple relapses....you do have to be detoxed from it by slowly decreasing dosages....some opiate dependent people have had success being medicated with suboxone.... used in CT for detox and maintenence purposes...
