Find your local volunteer center. They can provide you with meaningful volunteer opportunities that meet real community needs and match your personal interests. As a non-profit volunteer organization, they will also be able to get you the appropriate documentation that you need for school as well. I volunteer through one of the Hands On Network affiliates:

If you don't have a Hands On Affiliate in your area, here's a directory of volunteer centers in the USA:

If no centers exist, the United Way also provides volunteer matching services:

Good luck

There is a national service called Learn and Serve America. I am doing my debate case on it this year. It is a non profit organization especially designed for students to do service learning which is basically volunteering in the community to help them learn things like working with others, and creative problem solving and all sorts of other things. It is available for all students and schools from kindergarten all the way up through universities.

Call The Local churches. the Local Hospitals or visit the old age homes and entertain them.
Check with the mayors office and see if they have anything they can suggest. Now if you mean your school needs help and you want community service for them, then you have to give us more info.

You can find places near your community and see if they need any help. How about the Boys and Girl's club? Or aiding an elementary class. You can also check volunteermatch.com! =)

if your school doesn't have a list of agencies that need volunteers, go to a youth group meeting possibly and do service from there.

If you're 16 or older, you could do Habitat for Humanity.
