There is so much disagreement on this very question. I believe one must believe EVERYTHING scripture says. Where the problem occurs is when men come to scripture with preconceived ideas and then choose to listen only to scripture that supports a position.

One can find varying and individual scriptures that teach the necessity of several things to "get saved".

1) One must hear the word
2) One must believe that Jesus is the Savior
3) One must repent and turn from a heart set on the flesh
4) One must confess that Jesus is the Savior
5) One must be baptized for the remission of sins.
6) One must walk in the light as He is in the light so that the grace of God will continually cleanse one of his sins.

I think #5 is probably the one most Christians have trouble accepting. I would suggest that if we asked an elementary school child with no preconceived ideas to use the grammar they had been taught they would easily understand Mark 16:16

Mark 16:16

16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

The word "and" in English grammar requires the equal necessity of both ideas it separates in a sentence. Why do many understand that the statement "Whoever goes to the store AND buys a loaf of bread will be able to eat bread" but refuse to use the same grammatical rules for Mark 16:16? If one does not go to the store then one does not get to eat the bread. Likewise, if one does not buy the bread once at the store, one does not get to eat the bread. It's really very simply grammar that a school child would understand having no preconceived ideas.

Many say all one has to do is call upon the name of the Lord for salvation. I agree. But, according to scripture, how does one "call upon the name of the Lord?" It involves baptism.

Acts 22:16

16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name .'

Scripture actually explains that just as Noah was saved by water so are we saved by water. The water that saved Noah was a symbol of the water to come (baptism) that saves us.

1 Peter 3:20-21
God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water ,

21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also — not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

You must believe that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of the Living God. You must pray to ask forgiveness for your sins and ask Christ to come into your heart. It's simple. Doing good deeds will not get you to Heaven. You must believe and live to serve God. Believe in God and confess your sins. I hope you do get saved, my friend. Angels cry with joy when a non-believer gets saved.

I think that God wants us to believe in Jesus, and to follow the 10 Commandments that He gave to Moses. I'm sure that God also wants us all to do good deeds. I think that the better people we are, the better chance we have of being saved.

One gets saved by asking Jesus for forgiveness of sins and asking Jesus to lead their life. Salvation, being saved, CAN NOT be earned with deeds, it is a GIFT by the grace, mercy and sacrifice of Jesus' shedding of blood on the cross and his defeat of death by rising the 3rd day. Good deeds naturally come once you are saved as you try to be Christ Like and serve others.

Well there is a little more to it. I have said before that satan believes in God also, but he is not saved. There are so many things said that probably dont make sense, one is give your heart to God...well that means ask him to forgive your sins and then change your life around get new friends.Submit yourself to Him and live your life according to His will.Ask God to show you His will for your life.Jesus died for our sins so all the good deeds in the world will not equal that price that was paid. Jesus gave the ultimate price...His life...

Faith, then God's grace saves our souls
and good deeds and blessings are the natural by-product of it

Just good deeds by themselves, done on purpose just in order to make an impression, is just fake, waste of time, not being saved.

from Ephesians 2:8 & 9 :
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" "Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Also, a lack of good deeds is a symptom of lack of faith:

from James 2:
"faith without works is dead"

Mark 16:15-17 says, "He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues."

Its not enough just to believe, but to do also. Meaning, if you have an exam coming up, just believing in the fact that you have an exam will not be good enough.

Matthew 5:16 says, "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

The only way to be truly saved is by God's grace. No amount of good deeds can atone for your sins, only asking God's forgiveness can do that.

How does one become saved?

Romans 10:13 - "For whosoever (that's you!) shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

You must first first realize that you need saving. You are sinner (Romans 3:23). For your sin you deserve death and Hell forever (Romans 6:23), BUT (John 3:16, Romans 5:8) God loves YOU so much that even though you are a sinner God sent His One and Only Son Jesus Christ to come to this earth to bleed and die for your sin and take upon Himself the sin of the entire world and made Salvation so easy that all we have to do is pray to God and believe in your heart (Romans 10:9-10) and ask God to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart and save you.
He wants to and He will.
It says in the Bible that all of Heaven rejoices when one sinner bows for Salvation.

Fall on your knees and pray to God and be saved this very moment!!!

Email me, I want to be a help and encouragement to you!!!!!!!!
