I can give some (very little) details about each place according to my knowledge :
Altinkum is mostly English - everyone speaks English and there are a lot of English people living there as well. Very crowded in summer - we went out one night when we were on holiday there - and never went out of the hotel again - it was too crowded for us! However, it has beautiful beaches and Didyma is a place you have to visit. http://www.altinkum.com.tr.tc/
I don't know much about Marmaris, never been there. But you can get information on http://www.marmarisinfo.com/
Bodrum has been the trend these few years. Though I find it a bit expensive, it is the most well known holiday city in Turkey. The city has its own airport, it takes about half an hour to the city. When you are in Bodrum, one thing you have to do is to go to Datca (Knidos) by ferry. Info on Bodrum : http://www.bodrum-info.org/
Alanya i found too hot and wet. We live in Kusadasi and as Alanya is south it was too hot for us. And another info; Alanya is generally full of Germans - people call it "the little Germany" :)) Alanya has clean beaches and clear water, is not so close to the airport. Info : http://www.alanya.cc/alanya-ing/index.htm I went to Dim cave and Dim brook, both amazing..
Kusadasi is not very expensive. About 1 hour by car to the airport. Has 17 miles of sandy beach with smaller and bigger coves, each having a different name (Ladies Beach, Green Beach, Silver Sand Beach, Diamond Sand Beach, Long Beach, Love Beach....). Almost everyone in Kusadasi speaks English. Bird Island, The Friday and Wednesday markets, aquaparks, Ephesus, Virgin Mary's House, National Park on Dilek Peninsula are must-see's in Kusadasi. Info : http://www.kusadasi.net/

Hope all this information helps! Have a nice holiday in Turkey! :))

There is no definitive answer as it depends on what you are looking for in a holiday resort.
If you want a good beach, Alanya has it.
If you want yachts, probably Marmaris takes it (narrowly over Bodrum).
If you want history, Bodrum is probably in the lead.
If you want cheap beer in English speaking bars, Altinkum might be slightly ahead.
If you want ease of access from an airport, Kusadasi is probably nearest.
Etc etc.

What sort of holiday do you want?
There are plenty of other places to see in Turkey as well. Tried Fethiye or Dalyan? They have a bit of everything.
Patara? Kas? Kekova? Kemer? I could go on!

Wherever you end up, have a great holiday. I'm sure you will.

i always go to gumbet. its about 3km from bodrum. its cheaper than bodrum. the beach is great for watersports. plenty of turkish baths and the bars are the best! you will never get bored in gumbet and as its a smaller resort, everything is on your doorstep. the people thereare great and cant do enough for you.
gumbet is more traditional than most resorts
i have been to marmaris and find it way to westernised and the place is huge!
alanya wasnt built up when i went there but i have been told its a lot like bodrum... pricey!
if its a family holiday u want i would suggest icemeler.
but if you want a lively holiday its deffinatly worth going to gumbet!

Been to Kusidasi, marmaris and alanya and each one of them was great in its own way, I suppose it depends on what age you are. I think Kusidasi is the most liveliest for young people.

Each of them is wonderful and I have to add them Çeşme, Assos and Amasra.

But Marmaris is definitely the best.
