You could probably find a projector on ebay; just be sure to get one that will play your 8 mm movies. If I remember correctly, there were at least a couple of different formats (maybe hi8 was the other).

Once you have a projector, you could just project the movies onto a white wall and aim your camcorder at it to record. I did this with my old home movies several years ago and edited them into a more pleasing movie on DVD. Very fun!

When video cameras first gained popularity there were these boxes available into which one shone the projector on a small screen. The projector is on one side, and the camera on an adjacent side. The camera is pointing to a small screen in the box. You focus everything and simply record as you project.

I've noticed a bit of flicker when this is done, so you might want to check the scan rate of the camera. Choosing well will reduce the amount of flicker in the final product.

I don't remember what the boxes are called, but they are completely passive (no electronics, just a movable mirror and the screen), and shouldn't be too expensive. You could probably find some on ebay.
