Ritalin is a short acting drug. Why it is prescribed for kids so they stay focused and calm during school hours. I am a special education teacher who teaches emotionally handicapped kids. I have mixed emotions about any psychostimulant medications. For kids and adults who TRULY are ADHD it is a blessing. Unfortunately many people get put on them that really don't need them. Enough said about that. Because they are short acting, they wear off after a while, then you are what I call, dumped. You now feel all wound up and out of control.Talk to your Dr. you may want to try a time release version of Ritalin or one of the several other psychostimulants that are available. Good Luck

I dont believe in any medication prescribed for inability to concentrate, I looked at the definition of Ritalin on the web and it says that this medication is based on mere theories not facts.
It even says that it is extremly strong, that is can be compared to the effects of several illegal drugs.
What I am trying to say is that I believe the reason you feel horrible is becasue this thing you are taking is addictive and dangerous.
I will suggest to find out what is the source of your unability to concentrate and your hyperactivity, there are so many reasons that can cause a human being to feel hyper and unable to concentrate, that way you can find the real soultion to your problems and stop taking medications that are dangerous like Ritalin.

You should probably talk to your doctor about either switching to the extended release of Ritalin or adding another medication to help with this. I've worked with a lot of kids who have severe ADHD and I can understand what you are going through. Good luck with this.
