Vitamin C won't get rid of a cold but it can help shorten the duration of a cold. 1000mg 3-4 times a day usually does it for me. YMMV

Vitamin C does not get rid of cold. There is technically no cure for a cold, actually. Time is the only thing that can take care of a cold, with medicines and keeping yourself covered well when you're in and out of the cold weather. Vitamin C is a good to take as a daily regimen to help you from not catching it and not keeping the cold long.

Your body can only absorb so much Vitamin C a day.So taking more then the recommended amount won't do you much good.

unfortunately it doesn't work that way. vitamin C can help to prevent a cold but once you have one increasing the intake of it will do very little if anything.
