Well it depends on the district and what kinds of options your school offers. My school is in an above-middle class area, so our options can sometimes be better. While we have fries and pizza, we can also choose to have a variety of salads from a salad bar, baked potatoes, freshly-sliced fruit cups, and there are also Welch's juice in the fridge. So it really depends on what you choose.

If you mean is it more fattening than school food served in middle and elementary schools I would say yes. It's because schools most often give kids alot of choices in what they want to eat and they don't monitor how much or what kids buy.

Kids in lower grades have to eat whatever is on the school lunch menu and usually don't have any alternatives except for maybe a cold lunch...

Nowadays schools have a Wellness Policy which restricts what the schools can serve to kids and the portion sizes due to the rise of childhood obesity and health problems like juvenile diabetes.

As for food outside of school it really depends on what parents buy at home and allow their kids to eat. Every family is different in what they allow their kids to eat...

Basically all premade food is fattening. High schools often buy the cheapest thing which often contains alot of fat however many of the schools have begun buying whole grain/wheat breads and reduced carb and low fat foods.

Yes they are and it's disgusting. When I went to school all of our meals were made by hand each and every day....even the bread was fresh baked. It's awful that it has come to this...this ... "lunch program" we have which is supposed to represent a healthy diet. Paaaleeeaze! Thankfully they have taken the snack and pop machines out of our school and replaced them with juice, water and milk.
