After doing all the wrong things and getting into relationships with all the wrong people:

Red Flags:

1. Dependency issues: drugs and stuff cause problems.
2. Integrity issues: lying, cheating and stealing are bad.
3. Bad Attitude: It's a drag to hang with somebody under their personal dark cloud all the time.
4. Carrying too much baggage: It takes time and some introspection to heal broken hearts, but some people will use you like you're a drug to get over their broken hearts.

What you want:

1. Give and take (because nobody's perfect, and we could all use a hand every once in a while).
2. Confidence.
3. Integrity and kindness.
4. Respect (why stay if they can't stand you?).
5. Intimacy (somebody who knows you like no other).
6. Romance (breaks up the month to hear a nice word or do something out of a chick-flick).

You need to have trust, honesty, communication, chemistry, things in common, respect for each other, and enjoy each other's company.
A relationship should be alot like friendship, you can't have a good friendship without all the above aside from the chemistry issue...unless you want to date your best friend.

Love is the number 1 factor. respect is very important. Liking each other is a must. Trust is underrated.
I think those are the most important qualities.
