I saw something about this on TV a while back. I think they said it was because what you drink dilutes the stomach acid that is needed to process the food you eat. The more liquid you drink, the slower the acid works on what is in your stomach. If you don't drink ... water, for instance, or anything else, while eating, the acid is at its strongest and breaks down the food and digests it faster.

I'm assuming you mean drinking alcohol while eating. Alcohol is the worst thing for your body. Not only does it kill brain cells, it adds extra fat.

If you mean drinking in the general sense, then you're mistaken. Drinking fluids (non-alcohol) before, during and after a meal is fantastic for you. First of all, by drinking before a meal, you fill up on water and there is less of a chance that you'll overeat. Drinking water during and after a meal helps to flush it out of your system, keeping you healthy and in a slimmer shape. The food won't have the oppurtunity to sit and deposit fat

I heard this from a different angle. I have heard that you should not drink cold drinks while eating because the coldness of the beverage can solidify oils in the food and this can complicate complete digestion.
