Im 12 years old and my dad is around 5'11 and 270 lbs. Im worried about him because of the heart problems that run in the family. I love my dad and would hate to lose him =[ How do I convince him to diet and excercise?

Tell him what you just said here and give him a big hug.

IF he does not have any heart problems then dont worry as much. In the mean time you can sit him down and talk to him about how you feel throw those tears on him which I know will come natural while you are talking to him tell him the same thing you said here and then eat fruits and vegtables with him this will encourage him to eat them as well. He will wanna be heathy cause of his daughter and he not gonna wanna do anything to see you cry again. Talk to him eat heathy with him go running and walking with him you take the first steps in going and tell him to go with you. Tell him dad lets go walking or go to the park or bike riding anything you can think of that you know he can participate in do it with him this will be a big motivation for him. Pray and keep on pushing him to eat right and excercise.

Sweetie your dad may be unfit, but his life is not at stake. Unless the doctor told him that, don't worry. You could ask him to have a physical exam. Then encourage him to do outdoors active things with you sometimes.
I'm a daddy's girl too, so I know how you feel about protecting your daddy, but don't nag him. Nagging is stressful and that is not good for his heart either!

I'm afraid my dear that you can't get him to diet and exercise. I realize you are worried about him but he has to find that out for himself in his own mind and in his own time. You can encourage a slight dietary change by suggesting meals you would like to have that would be shared with him at mealtime. As far as exercise, have you asked him to go for a walk with you.
You could make it a quality "talk" time. A time when only you and he talk about things that are in your life and encourage him to talk about his job, viewpoints on life, etc. It doesn't have to be long to begin with but maybe that way he will think of the time spent together instead of the time spent in exercise. It will also bring you closer together. Double the pleasure double the fun.

Hmmm... Perhaps talk to your family members and then have a family intervention. Have a heart to heart talk with your dad telling him that you're worried and that you don't want him to get sick. Then ask that he goes to see a doctor to check his heart rate, heart pressure, cholesterol levels and perhaps a stress test. A doctor can recommend what's best for him.

Good luck...

i would talk to him about your worries. ask him to work out with you--you could jog together --run --walk whatever.
this will also build the bond between the two of you by spending some quality time together.
hooray for you for taking some real interest in your dad and his health. now put a plan into action.

Talk to your daddy and tell him how much you love him and need him in your life. Ask him what you can do to help him get in shape so he'll be around for you...and his grandchildren some day. Ask him if he'll go walking with you every evening.

Maybe start dieting and exercising yourself to set an example? Or start walking and invite him along? A walk might not help much, but at least it is a start.

Get him to eat foods that are good for his heart.
Buy him fruits, apples, cherries, even nuts are good for the heart.
Hey, everybody's life is at stake, but go ahead and eat more steak.
Just pray for your Dad, his life is okay and stop worrying,

Tell him what you've told us and hope for the best. But dear, his life is at "stake" not "steak." The later is something you eat.
