Consider the alternatives. Would you rather see it drip?

There is no polite or correct way to blow your nose at the dinner table. Excuse yourself to another room and we are all really suppose to be washing our hands after we blow our nose.

It's not polite or correct, but unfortunately my mother and my great aunt and her husband all do it. The really HORRIBLE thing is that my great aunt and her husband actually use the restaurant NAPKINS to blow their noses. And they're not the paper ones. We're talking nice fabric ones. Personally I think it's disgusting. If I had to blow my nose I'd excuse myself from the table and go to the ladies' room.

I don't think so.~~ I wouldn't do it.~~ I see it done quite often.

Once a group of us friends went out to eat and we witnessed one of the women clear her throat and spit it in the cloth napkin at the table. She also blew her nose, into the napkin. That scene made me sick to my stomach, and I think of that every time I go to a nice restaurant with cloth napkins.

I wish I could erase that memory from my mind. Otherwise that woman is such a nice person. Very kind & just a good soul.

Don't judge. Everyone has different circumstances.... yes, some do it because they're rude, but not everyone. I personally would end up spending at least 75% of my time in the restroom if I had to get up every single time I needed to wipe or blow my nose at a restaurant, because I have allergies. At home, it doesn't make a difference and I'll get up... but at a restaurant, getting up every two minutes would kill the quality of my outing, and kill the quality of conversation between myself and those I'm with.

Some of us can't help it. Allergies suck. However, there's a difference between discreetly giving a small blow and clearing the nasal passages and straight up fog-horn-ing it. And I'd rather one solid blow than an hour of loud sniffles.

It's common sense not to do it at the dinner table! I'll be really mad and hit the person with a plate!
